Our editorial standards

Useful advice.
Carefully considered.

Plantedwell helps readers make informed choices about plants and the spaces they grow in. Tara Gosselin leads our editorial direction, with an emphasis on practical explanations, appropriate sources and advice that takes growing conditions into account.

Advice for the actual growing conditions

Species, cultivars, climate and growing space all affect what a plant needs. Our guides explain those differences and the reasoning behind a recommendation. Dates, watering intervals and planting distances need to be understood in context.

Sources behind the guidance

We use horticultural and specialist references, including university extension services, botanical institutions and the Royal Horticultural Society. Topics involving animals or other specialist concerns draw on relevant sources. References are linked so readers can explore the guidance and its scope. A reference does not imply endorsement of Plantedwell by the organisation concerned.

Practical experience and community knowledge

Questions from gardeners help us identify the details that deserve a clearer explanation. When we draw on Tara’s experience, a contributor’s work, client feedback or a community member’s observations, we identify the source and keep the circumstances attached to the account.

An individual experience can offer a useful insight, while results may differ elsewhere. We distinguish these accounts from published research and specialist recommendations. We link to public discussions where used and obtain permission before reusing community photographs.

AI-assisted editorial work

We use AI tools to support research, organise source material, prepare drafts and assist with editing. Tara oversees the site’s editorial direction and standards. Our approach brings that assistance together with source-based research, practical knowledge and editorial judgement.

Personal accounts, quotations, qualifications and project details need a documented basis. Claims of hands-on testing or site visits are reserved for work that actually took place and can be described.

Tools, calculations and illustrations

Our tools explain their inputs, units and assumptions. Worked examples and modelled charts are labelled accordingly; observation logs use the readings entered by the visitor. Planning diagrams show relationships and dimensions within the stated scope of the tool. Local conditions and the requirements of the actual plant still need consideration.

Editorial independence

Plantedwell’s guides and tools are created to help readers understand and plan. We do not include affiliate product links or commission-based shopping modules. Recommendations are guided by the topic and the reader’s needs.

Updates and corrections

We revisit our content as information changes and questions arise. Articles show their update dates. If you notice an error or advice that needs more context, email info@plantedwell.com with the page address and the detail we should check.

Photography and visual material

Guide photographs include material from the Plantedwell archive. AI-generated illustrations are identified as illustrations, including the garden concept on our homepage. Diagrams and planning visuals are presented as explanatory material.
